Fully Funded Research Scholarships for International Students, University of Sussex, UK

Research scholarships are available for international doctoral students at University of Sussex – UK, commencing their studies in September 2017, academic year 2017 – 2018.

The scholarships are available for one year, but can be renewed annually for up to 3 years for full time international doctoral students. This scholarship will be used to cover your international / overseas tuition fees and provide stipend. This scholarship only available for students applying PhD in School of English, School of History, Art History and Philosophy, and School of Media, Film and Music at University of Sussex.

There is no restriction on the nationality of the students, except that the students must come from outside EU countries and students must not have previously studied in the UK. Norton Rose Fulbright LLP and the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), are pleased to offer two full tuition fee only scholarships for the September 2017 intake for students wishing to follow the LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law Programme.

Who is eligible to apply for these scholarships?

Students holding an offer for the LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law programme (either conditional or unconditional) for full-time study may apply for this scholarship online- see details on how to apply below.

Closing Dates and Important Notes

You MUST apply for the LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law in London before applying for a scholarship – your application ID number is a requirement.

You must have applied for the programme by 28 February 2017 to then be eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The online form must be completed and submitted with relevant documentation (detailed below) no later than 23:59h BST on 28 March 2017.

Any student who has applied for the LLM Programme by 13 February 2017 and has not received an LLM offer of study by 20 March 2017 should contact llmscholarships@qmul.ac.uk (not the admissions team) and quote the date of application and their application number in order for us to look into this.

What do the scholarships cover? How are they paid?

For the successful candidates, his/her tuition fees payable to Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) – the equivalent of £13,400 for a Home/EU student or £19,500 for a non-Home/EU student – will be covered entirely by the scholarship in the form of a fee waiver. Please note the scholarship does not cover any additional living costs or flights etc.

In addition to receiving a scholarship, each successful applicant will also be awarded a two week international internship at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP. Additional travel and living costs up to £1750 incurred as a result of taking up this internship will be reimbursed, and any necessary work visas will be arranged on the applicant’s behalf by Norton Rose Fulbright.

What are scholarship winners required to do?

The successful candidate may be asked to assist with QMUL marketing events such as postgraduate open evenings and/or web/video student profiles; as well as supporting CCLS and Norton Rose Fulbright LLP in promoting the scholarship (e.g. through interviews, photos and presence at events).

How to apply for the LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law Scholarships

You MUST apply for the LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law in London before applying for a scholarship – your application ID number is a requirement.

You must have applied for the programme by 28 February 2017 to then be eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The online form must be completed and submitted with relevant documentation (detailed below) no later than 23:59hours BST on 28 March 2017.

In order to apply for this scholarship please complete and sign the online application form, and attach the following documents (as ONE COMBINED PDF DOCUMENT):

  • A copy of your CV.
  • A 500 word max response to the following ‘Please state the reasons why you are applying for this LLM, why you are interested in energy and natural resources and why you feel we should award you this scholarship’.
  • A full transcript of your grades: Undergraduate/Bachelors level/first degree level and Postgraduate/Masters (if applicable).

Upon submission of your scholarship application you will be re-directed to a page which will state ‘Your response has been recorded’. There is no need to contact us to request further confirmation so please do not do so.

Fully Funded Master Scholarships for International Students, Utrecht University, Netherlands

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for an Utrecht Excellence Scholarship, you must

  • Belong to the top 10% of your graduating class
  • Not hold an EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans
  • Have completed your secondary school and/or Bachelor degree outside the Netherlands
  • Have applied for an international master’s programme with a start date of September 1, 2017. Not all programmes participate, please check www.uu.nl/masters > master’s programme > Tuition fees and financial support to see if the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship is mentioned as a scholarship opportunity.

Scholarship amount

The Utrecht Excellence scholarship can be awarded as:

  • tuition fees
    or
  • tuition fees plus 11.000 euro living expenses

As the grant is not automatically a full scholarship, it may be necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance your studies and stay completely. Students requiring a residence permit in the Netherlands must prove to the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Office) that they have sufficient financial means. Read more about the budget the University advises.

Number of scholarships

20-25 scholarships are available for 2017-2018, divided over the 6 Graduate Schools.

The scholarship is awarded for the duration of the degree programme, which is one or two years, depending on the degree programme. The scholarship will only be renewed for the second year if the student is making satisfactory progress towards the degree.

Deadline

Prospective students who wish to be considered for the scholarship must apply before February 1 (00:00 Dutch time). Your application for a scholarship will only be processed if you have submitted an application for a Master’s programme as well. Please note that in some cases you may need to apply before December 1; check the ‘When to apply’ section under Admission and application of your master’s programme.

Selection criteria

Eligible candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. Academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study;
  2. The academic quality and results of preceding qualifications, as evidenced by proof of belonging to the top 10% of the class, grades, test scores, a writing sample, letters of recommendation;
  3. The quality and relevance of the motivation letter for the Master’s programme (academic content, intercultural and communication skills, personal motivation);
  4. The quality of the application for the Master’s programme itself (completeness, accuracy, consistency).

HOW TO APPLY

After submitting an application for the Master’s programme, non-EU/EEA students will have the option to submit an application for an Utrecht Excellence Scholarship.

You will need to upload the following document:

  • Proof of belonging to the top 10% of your graduating class: an official document issued by your university that proves you are among the top 10% of your graduating class, such as a statement signed and stamped by your University, a reference letter, a class ranking certificate, etc.

Please note that students starting their programme in February are not eligible for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarships.

  1. Submit an application for a Master’s programme; if you do not do this first, your UES application will simply be deleted.
  2. After submitting an application for a Master’s programme, you can go to Osiris Online Application
  3. Log in with your Osiris username and password
  4. Click on the link ‘New application’
  5. Answer the UES questions and upload the requested document(s)
  6. Submit your application

You will be informed about the scholarship after you have been (un)conditionally admitted to the programme.

Applicants who pass the first screening process will be invited for an interview, an English written exam, and a specialized academic written exam according to the field of research project you selected.

The interview process & place for international students will be announced later. For students from Japan, the interview will be conducted at Kochi University of Technology.

  2. A minimum ITP TOEFL score of 550 or IELTS equivalent. Please note that TOEFL prediction or TOEFL-like score cannot be accepted.

DISCIPLINES
Fulbright grants may be used for study or research in most disciplines and fields of study with the exception of medicine related to patient care or clinical patient contact. Proposals in humanities, arts, and social sciences, and in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and health are equally welcome. Applications in STEM fields are encouraged that focus on environmental preservation, alternative energy exploration, or climate change mitigation.

REQUIRED TESTS

At the time of application to AMINEF, only an Institutional Testing Program (ITP) TOEFL or IELTS score is required. If you are later selected for an award, you must then take the official iBT TOEFL test, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for all fields except law and business, or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) for business administration, finance, and accounting.
